Expert meeting 'Hoe tillen we het ontwikkelingsdebat naar een hoger niveau?'
Description:
This closed meeting is part of the 'Singing a new policy tune' process and is being organised in close cooperation with The Broker, which has hosted a discussion blog on the WRR report.
The main question that is going to be asked on April 22 is: how can we take the debate about the future of international cooperation to a higher level? The WRR report has succeeded in getting the debate out of the realm of one-liners. The many varied comments reflect a high degree of involvement. The premise of the discussion on April 22 is that we can build on this. Many of the responses are obviously coloured by the specific background of those involved and it is important that we consider a formula in which the discussion can be conducted at a higher level. This does not mean in a neutral way, but in a way in which different perspectives can contribute to the formulation of a new Dutch strategy.
About 30 experts are going to formulate concrete policy proposals for international cooperation, with the discussion focusing on four themes:
1) The Dutch contribution to global public goods, and the ways our development can and must be adapted to cope with new global developments (policy coherence).
2) How to set up future bilateral policies (setting priorities and choices about inventory channels).
3) The roles of different Dutch stakeholders in global development, and the forms of cooperation and funding as regards implementation.
4) The need for 'professionalisation' and the terms and conditions governing the acceleration of knowledge for global cooperation.
The meeting is going to take place from 9.30 a.m. - 1.00 p.m.
