DPRN Phase I (2004-2007)
In the first phase a subsidy from the DGIS Cultural Cooperation, Education and Research Department (DCO) allowed DPRN to organise annual expert meetings on both thematic and regional bases. The aim of the meetings was to bring together scientists, policymakers and development practitioners from the Netherlands and Belgium with a view to exchanging knowledge and experience, and to achieving greater synergy between each other's activities. The meetings offered participants an opportunity to find out "who's who" and "who is doing what" and provided a forum to discuss present developments that needed attention from both a scientific and development-oriented perspective.
DPRN facilitated the following thematic meetings:
In 2007: "European development cooperation: does more mean better?"
In 2006: "Measuring results in development"
In 2005: "The Millennium Development Goals as a challenge for scientists and development practitioners"
The regional meetings considered the following 13 regions: Central America, the Caribbean, South America, North Africa and the Middle East, Western Africa, Central Africa, Southern Africa, Eastern Africa, the Horn of Africa, South Asia, Eastern Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific and the region to the east of the EU.
An overview of the regions and the coordinating institutions can be found here.
Reports of the regional expert meetings can be found under publications.
